How are absences recorded? What happens if my ECT has a lot of absence?
At each reporting period, you will be asked to record how many days absent the ECT has had that term. As reports are due 2 weeks before the end of term, please record the absences had to date but notify us if further absences are taken in that following 2-week period.
ECTs can have up to 29.5 days absence in each year of induction before an extension is required. If an extension is generated, the ECT will need to serve the number of adhoc absence days taken before each year of Induction can be fully served.
How many terms of induction do ECTs have to serve?
ECTs have to complete 6 FTE of Induction. Where an ECT works part-time, a request may be made to the Appropriate Body for a reduced induction after 2 calendar years have been worked.
Can an ECT serve induction on supply work?
If the ECT is working for a minimum of one term on that supply contract, with full teaching responsibility of the same class, they can be registered for induction.
Day to day supply work or PPA cover is not a suitable post for induction.
The contract is temporary. Can we register the ECT for Induction?
Yes, as long as the ECT has full class teacher responsibility for a minimum of one term, they can serve induction. Once the contract ends, their induction will be on hold until they obtain another suitable post to continue induction.
Our ECT is leaving at the end of the term. What do we have to do?
When you come to complete the end of term report for the ECT in ECT manager, you will be asked if the ECT will be remaining with you for the next reporting period. Please select 'No', the report will generate an Interim Assessment for you to complete.
I have concerns about my ECTs progress. What should I do?
If you have concerns that your ECT is not progressing or on track to pass the teachers' standards at the end of the two-year induction, please contact us at AB@NorthantsTShub.org or call through on 01536 397013.
In each termly report, you will be asked to indicate if the ECT is 'On Track' or 'Not On Track' to meet the Teachers' Standards.
Can I apply for my ECT to reduce induction?
If the ECT has completed 2 calendar years of induction on a part time contract, you can request a reduced induction by completing the below request.
If the ECT has worked unqualified for a miniumum of 5 years, with whole class teaching responsibility, you may put in a request for reduced induction. This will then be reviewed by the AB Team. ECTs must serve a miminum of one term of Induction.
