More options to keep getting better

The NPQ framework provides a 'golden thread' through every stage of a teacher’s career.

  • Five specialist NPQs will allow teachers, middle leaders and senior teachers to develop the depth of their expertise.
  • Five leadership NPQs for senior leaders, headteachers, executive leaders, early years leaders, and SENCOs which provide them with core knowledge and practices required to lead schools and early years settings, plus a coaching offer for new headteachers.
School leaders recommend our NPQs

95% of NPQ school leaders would recommend Ambition Institute’s NPQ programmes to another headteacher. (Ambition Institute participant survey, May 2025, 312 respondents)

The NPQs focus on what educators need to know

The NPQs focus on the persistent problems teachers and leaders face and what they need to know to get better. Rather than delve into generic leadership traits, they instead focus on what teachers and school leaders need to know to improve in their roles.

Participant impact:

95% of NPQ school leaders would recommend Ambition Institute’s NPQ programmes to another headteacher. (Ambition Institute participant survey, May 2025, 312 respondents)   o 100% of school leaders with an NPQ participant in their school agreed that completing an Ambition Institute NPQ had led to participants developing knowledge of evidence informed practice  (Ambition Institute participant survey, October 2024, 328 responded)

Align to your school’s context and improvement plans

Each of the Ambition NPQs are designed to be tailored to your school’s context. This includes exemplifications used across the NPQs to show them applied in different context as well as our communities and clinics where participants can bring their own persistent problems and solve then with the support of expert facilitators and network peers.

They’re designed using the latest evidence of what works

The NPQ frameworks have been developed by looking at a broad evidence base, from how pupils learn to what makes good personal development. By joining one of our NPQs, you’ll be learning from the latest research in that respective area on a professional development programme that is evidence informed.

Flexible delivery

Benefit from an Ambition designed NPQ course that are delivered around existing commitments. Most of the training can be completed at a time that suits you using our online platform with minimal time needed away from your school or trust.

Combining insight and practice to drive habit change

We’ve designed our NPQs to ensure the content enables teachers to retrieve and apply what they learn, connecting theory to practice, to help those newly acquired behaviours stick and be embedded into practice. This baked-in, regular, deliberate practice is based on the evidence of what creates lasting behaviour change.

Embed learning across your school and trust

Professional development is much more effective when teachers learn together. By placing groups of your teachers and leaders onto our funded NPQs, they’ll develop a shared language across your school/trust which support their own learning and help them to get better, faster. This has the opportunity to act as a multiplier effect in a school or trust setting and can really drive improvement, especially considering the golden thread of professional development and the coherence between the NPQs as well as the Early Career and Initial Teacher Training Frameworks.
