Part-time is equivalent to 2 years: Sept 2026 to April 2028.

Subjects Available

  • Primary (5-11)
  • English

Why should candidates choose to train with us ?

Our training allows you to make a real difference to the children in your community. You’ll benefit from training that’s developed by our training partner Teach First and delivered by us, local teacher development experts who know and understand our communities’ needs.

Teach First is a charity that believes education is the most powerful tool to help a child fulfil their potential. They have been training teachers for over 20 years and are the largest initial teacher training provider in the country. Their initial teacher training is rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.

School Placements

On our programme, you’ll train in school year-round between September 2026 and April 2028, following the school calendar. Throughout the part-time programme, you will be in school three days per week, split into classroom experience and online learning. At some stage during the programme, you’ll complete around 8 weeks in another setting—nursery, primary, secondary, or post-16—broadening experience based on your specialism.

In your school, you’ll learn from experienced teachers by observing lessons and developing planning skills. Over the course of the programme, you’ll gradually increase your own teaching practice at a pace that supports your progress. You’ll also take part in a vibrant school community, gaining valuable experience both in the classroom and through wider involvement.

Theoretical training

Your theoretical training develops your subject knowledge and expertise alongside a deep understanding of effective teaching methods and techniques to manage your workload and wellbeing. Our training combines online and face-to-face elements in school and will ensure you have the skills to gain your QTS and PGCE. You will not be required to attend university in person.

At the start of the programme in September, you’ll have two weeks of intensive training with a further two separate weeks of intensive training later on. You’ll also spend the equivalent of around one day a week in theoretical training throughout the programme.

Rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted and grounded in research, our course equips you with the knowledge and skills to succeed across five key areas in teaching:

· subject knowledge and pedagogy

· an inclusive classroom environment

· effective and inclusive teaching

· planning and curriculum

· effective assessment

Before entering the classroom, you’ll complete two weeks of intensive training focused on key skills such as behaviour management and planning, followed later in the year by another two weeks targeting key areas to strengthen your practice.

During your placement, you’ll attend weekly training sessions, carefully sequenced to match the demands of the academic year. Alongside this, you’ll complete half-termly modules. In Year 1, these will be accompanied by live seminars and a full-day conference. These combine core curriculum training with subject - or phase-specific content, ensuring your learning is directly relevant and practical.

How will I be assessed?

Throughout your training, you’ll be demonstrating your teaching skills to fulfil the Teachers’ Standards through interactions with your mentor, classroom practice and online learning. On completion, you’ll be recommended for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) by Teach First. You will also complete modules to gain your PGCE with our university partner.
